Carlos Mari Mayans gave the lecture ‘From the field of the Pitiusas to the distillate: the botanical essence of Family Mari Mayans’.
Family Mari Mayans was one of the protagonists of the International Spirits Conference held in Barcelona on October 22 and 23. In this context, Carlos Mari Mayans, one of the company’s managers along with his brother Bartolomé, offered the lecture ‘From the field of the Pitiusas to the distillate: the botanical essence of Family Mari Mayans’. A conference that was part of the ‘Innovation and new trends’ block, in which Carlos Mari Mayans detailed the journey of this family company that since 1880 pays tribute to tradition, the aromatic plants of Ibiza and their land through its distillates that are part of the history and traditions of the island.
During his speech, Mari Mayans took a trip through the 145 years of history of this brand, from its foundation in 1880 by Juan Mari Mayans, pioneer in the art of distillation in the Balearic Islands, to the present. A journey in which he reviewed the evolution of this family of craftsmen, the care of their field of aromatics in Sant Miquel de Balansat or the creation of references that are part of the gastronomic and cultural imagination of Ibiza such as Hierbas Ibicencas Family Mari Mayans (the originals), Frígola®, Palo, Ginebras IBZ Premium or infusions IBIZEN, all of them made with botanicals from the island.
The Mari Mayans manager also explained the importance of each of the aromatic plants that give life to the spirits that this company produces in its local distillery in Ibiza such as frígola, rosemary, fennel, santolina, mint, marjoram, chamomile, sage and citrus fruits such as orange and lemon. In the same way, he detailed the 100% artisanal production methods that this family company has used for over a century: distillation in a copper still, boiling, infusion, maceration and the meticulous process of making the syrup.
The lecture also addressed the areas in which these spirits are integrated into contemporary culture, from artisanal pastry to signature cocktail making, where bartenders from all over the world reinterpret the taste of Ibiza through their creations. He also highlighted the international projection of the Mari Mayans brand, with presence in countries
