What is Absenta Art Collection?
The Absinthe Distilled Spirit (Bb. Esp.) is produced through various processes of treatment of aromatic plants, their infusions, macerations, and high-quality distillations.
Although sometimes considered a liqueur, the <
Master craftsmen since 1880
It is produced by distilling carefully selected leaves and stems of Artemisia Absinthium (wormwood) and then macerating them in the presence of other plants. The result is a spectacular green-colored drink that violently clouds when water is added, a process known as ‘Louche’ or ‘Paloma’.
It is one of the few 100% natural drinks, due to its great difficulty in production, as wormwood, if not properly treated, creates substances (called Beta-thujones) with strong hallucinogenic properties.
That is why this drink is subject to constant analysis and legislation; it was even banned in many countries due to the large amount of beta-thujones that could be obtained from careless handling of wormwood.
Absinthe was supposedly invented by Dr. Pierre Ordinaire in 1792 as a ‘cure-all’. As it was used to cure any disease or ailment, it was nicknamed La Fee Verte or The Green Fairy; a nickname that stuck with it forever.
How is the Louche method or 'spoon' method performed?
The sugar is placed in a spoon and kept above a tall glass containing an ounce of Absinthe. Then, cold water, as cold as ice, is dripped through the sugar so that the drops fall little by little inside the glass. Each drop turns into a white cloud, like snow. The sugar softens the strong taste of the < Absinthe with this attractive method; the color change of the drink, drop by drop, seems like magical alchemy.
