A unique liqueur, with great personality and intense aroma
Family specialty Marí Mayans
What is the Frígola?
The Frígola is a fine liqueur obtained by the extraction of aromas in our copper still, from various plants from the island of Ibiza, mainly Thyme.
In Ibiza and Formentera, it is very common to see vast fields of Frígola in bloom during the months of June and July, with their white or purple flowers, depending on the variety. An ancient tradition says that the collection of this plant must be done very early in the morning on Saint John’s Day.
The Frígola is the first drink made by the Marí Mayans family, before the founding of the first distillery in Formentera in 1880.
Master craftsmen since 1880
This liqueur is the result of the tenacity of Don Juan Marí Mayans and his fondness for aromatic plants, in the mid-nineteenth century which led to the commercialization of this spirit achieving great acceptance, which is why bibliographic references in the press begin to appear in the form of gastronomic comments or advertisements.
There are also literary references, such as in the work of Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, ‘the dead command’, in which the consumption of Frígola is described as an ancient custom of the island of Ibiza and the Mediterranean coast. Of course, references in tourist magazines, gastronomy, and guides to the Pitiusas Islands are constant.
The use and consumption of Frígola is very widespread in Ibiza and Formentera as a drink suitable for after meals, with or without ice, it is part of the gastronomy and culture of the Pitiusas Islands.
It is part of the gastronomy and culture of the Pitiusas Islands and as an accompaniment to its original pastry.
The >>>PROTECTED_1<<< and Ibicenco cuisine
The use and consumption of Frígola is very widespread in Ibiza and Formentera as an appropriate drink for after meals, with or without ice, it is part of the gastronomy and culture of the Pitiusas. It is a magnificent accompaniment (and also ingredient) of its original pastry.
To regular consumers of Ibizan herbs, reluctant at first to try another type of digestif, when they taste the Frígola, they are usually surprised… mainly due to the strong Thyme aroma that is perceived, certain orange nuances in its taste and a sugar balance that makes it an excellent liqueur.
Handcrafted process since 1880
Aromatic plants are processed for the extraction of their aroma through distillation, maceration, and infusion methods. To the distillates, macerations, and infusions, natural cane sugar syrup, agricultural ethanol, and the necessary demineralized water are added to achieve the desired characteristics.
